Why Find Your Best Dog Was Created -
Hi, I'm Jeff Tilt, founder of FindYourBestDog.com. Thanks so much for coming to our website.
Ever since I was a little boy I loved animals. As a kid, I had pets that walked, hopped, crawled, flew, swam, and slithered their way into my heart. But my absolute favorite was a beagle pup my aunt and uncle gave me that I named 'Heidi'. As a result of my interest in animals, when I went to college I chose biology as my major. Since then, I have had the opportunity to study the behavior of animals from home aquarium fish to Whale Sharks to the Mountain Gorilla.
Eventually, my love of pets led me to help a friend who owned a pet shop. His shop had a full range of animals including dogs, fish, birds, small mammals (ferrets, Guinea Pigs, hamsters, etc.), insects, and reptiles. It was during this time he told me about (and I had a chance to see first-hand) how so many people made a poor choice in the dog they purchased. Often these people spent a great deal of money to buy a dog that didn't seem to fit their lifestyle. With my special love for dogs, the idea that someone would get one that made them so unhappy they got rid of it bothered me. To know some of these dogs ended up in a shelter bothered me a great deal.
Ultimately, I bought my own pet shop that specialized in my favorite animal- dogs. This gave me the opportunity to refine my understanding of the way people look for a dog and watch first-hand what works and what doesn't work when people make their choice. I started categorizing the mistakes that people made when choosing their dog and I was able to identify three big mistakes people made time and time again. I also identified six key questions you need to be able to answer in order to find your best dog. This knowledge led to the creation of this website and my experiences as a pet shop owner allows me to provide you with an insider's knowledge of how the pet industry works.
My goal for this project is to help 25,000 people find their best dog. By doing so, I hope to prevent over 10,000 dogs from being surrendered to shelters. I'd consider it an honor to help you find your best dog.
